My uncle, the photographer

My uncle, the photographer

Dear readers of my weblog.

Today I would like to write about my uncle. My uncle is a photographer. He really makes beautiful and sharp pictures. Photographing is not really his job, because he doesn’t earn enough with it. But he would like to photograph and make it his profession. He is often asked for big jobs and events. For example, last week he had a photo shoot with the model Janice Dickinson and he was invited to photograph on the private party of Victoria Koblenko.

I found the pictures and the work my uncle does extremely impressive. It's also nice to have a photographer in the family, because every time we have a family meeting or a birthday, he makes beautiful pictures and it’s really nice to look back at those pictures.

Nowadays it’s really hard to make a profession out of photographing. If you want a job as photographer you have to be very good. This is also the reason why a lot of people don’t choose the study photography. Not because they don’t like the study. In contrary, they like the study a lot and really want to do it, but they aren’t assure of a good job in the future so they decide to choose a study who does give that certainty.

I would like to photograph myself too. I love those big cameras which make extra sharp pictures. I’m thinking about buying a digital Canon camera in the future. But I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make such beautiful pictures as my uncle, I leave that to him!

Avatar

Dear readers of my weblog.

The film that broke several box office records during its release and became the highest-grossing film of all time in the U.S. and Canada and also worldwide, surpassing Titanic, which had held the records for the previous 12 years. It became the first film to gross more than $2 billion. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director and won three, for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction. I’m talking about the film Avatar.

Avatar is a 2009 American epic science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Joel David Moore, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver. The film is set in the mid-22nd century, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi (a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora). The film's title refers to the genetically engineered Na'vi-human hybrid bodies used by a team of researchers to interact with the natives of Pandora.

I went to Avatar myself and I think it’s a very beautiful film. I saw it in 3D which made it a little more real. I found the film very touching and it amazed me how real it actually looks. You can definitely see that it took a long time to make this movie. The only thing I found a bit unfortunate was that it’s a very long film. But if you haven’t seen it yet, you definitely should see it!

The voice of Holland

Dear readers of my weblog,

Today I’m going to tell you something about a program that is very popular nowadays: The voice of Holland. The voice of Holland is the most popular talent show of Holland and you can watch it every friday on RTL 4.

The Voice of Holland is all about unique singing talent. The auditions take place online and after that there are four coaches to guide the talents that made in through the auditions to the finish. The four coaches are: Nick en Simon, Angela Groothuizen, VanVelzen and Jeroen van der Boom. The presenters on stage are Martijn Krabbe and Wendy van Dijk and the report out of the Red Room is presented by Winston Gerschtanowitz.

The Red Room (sponsored by Vodafone) is the Room where the singing talents go after their performance. In the Red Room you find a lot of Samsumg Galaxy Tabs, where the performers can see Twitter messages about themselves.

Tonight is the final of The Voice of Holland. The four talents that are left are: Kim de Boer, Leonie Meijer, Ben Saunders and Pearl Jozefzoon. I think it is going to be very difficult to pick a winner from these four finalists, because they’re all four are extremely good and they all got there own qualities. But if you ask me who I think is going to win tonight I’d say Ben Saunders, because he got a lot of fans and everybody adores him.

So, everybody watch the final of The Voice of Holland on RTL 4 at 20.30! Believe me, you don’t want to miss it!

Renault Clio Commercial

Dear readers of my weblog,

Today I’m going to write about the funny commercial of the Renault Clio. First of all I like to say that I really think I Renault Clio is a very nice car. Not too big, but also not too small, and I like the way it looks.

Now I’m going to tell you something about the commercial. I saw it like a hundred times, but every time I see it I have to laugh again! The commercial start with a young man in a car. First you only see the car and then you hear a song and see the man in the car. The man sings along with the song very hard. At a point the man stops by a stoplight. There he sees another man beside him in a car. He still sings the song very hard and because his window is open, the man beside him hears everything, that is also the reason why the man in the other car looks a little strange at the man who is singing very loud. After that, the singing man arrives at the home of his girlfriend. There he meets the father of his girlfriend for the first time. The father appears to be the man from the car that stood beside him by the stoplight! The father recognizes the man and looks a little surprised, then after a while he says: ‘Well.. at least you have a nice car!’ And then the man says: ‘Well.. at least you have a nice daughter!’

The reason I think this commercial is very good, is because it’s funny but you do realise where the commercial is about, namely the Renault Clio.

My 'ex'- job as a Callcenteragent

Dear readers of my weblog,

Two years ago I worked for a company that called Square² Contact Center. Square² is a little Callcenter in Delft which sells Oxxio (energy) and raises money for the Dutch Heart Foundation. It is a nice company that employs mostly young people.

I worked there for six months. When I started there I was only sixteen years old and I had no experience what so ever. The first day I was very nervous, because I didn’t knew how or what I had to do. Fortunately I got a lot of help from my supervisor.

My job was to call people and sell them energy from Oxxio (an energy supplier). When you work in a Callcenter you sit behind a computer with a headset on which include a microphone and at your computer screen you see exactly what you have to say. .At first I really liked the job. I thought it was challenging, because your goal is to score as much costumers as you can. But after a while I started to like it less and less. It not only became really boring, but the longer I worked there, the more I began to notice that I was actually lighting up people. Because Oxxio isn’t cheaper than other energy companies, but our job is to make it seem like Oxxio is the best and the cheapest.

After I found out that they were trying to sell Oxxio to old people who don’t even understand what Oxxio actually means, I resigned. And after this awful experience I decided to never work in a Callcenter again.

My life as a student

Dear readers of my weblog.

To be honest, I hardly know any more topics to write about. Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of subjects where I can write a interesting blog about, but not all subjects are related to the study Commercial Economics. That’s why I’m going to tell you something about my life as a student which, of course, is also very interesting.

My life as a student is quite varied, busy and stressful, but also very fun and extravagant. It has nice things and things that are less nice, just like everything in life has good and less good things. School is sometimes really dramatic, at some moments you’re doing three or even four projects at the same time and there are many deadlines. The exams also provide a lot of stress. But the fun part is really outrageous! Going out with friends, the crazy assignments we sometimes get, the new people you meet, new experiences, everything is one big adventure!

I’m very glad with my choice to go to the Hague High school. I really love the school, the people and the atmosphere is great. It’s also a very big school, which I think is a big advantage, because there are a lot of places where you can study, do your homework or meet with your workgroup and work on a project. Something I also like a lot about the Hague High school is that there is an activity or a promotion of a product or company almost every week. You notice that by the flyers that are being handed out and last week I saw a group that sold condoms.

The Burj al Arab

Dear readers of my weblog!

Today I'm going to tell you about my lovely holiday in Dubai. I went there in April 2009 with my family (my father, mother and my sister). We went there for one week, which I thought was way too short! I really loved it there, the weather, the people, but especially the awesome buildings they got there. One of the most beautiful buildings I saw there was the Burj al Arab and because it amazed me so much I’m going to write about the Burj Al Arab today.

You may wonder how this subject is related to the study Commercial Economics. Well, the Burj al Arab is a famous building in Dubai and it attracts a lot of tourist and when you talk about tourist you get the subject tourism and tourism has a lot to do with the economy of a county, so this subject certainly is related to the study.

The Burj al Arab (in Arabic: Tower of the Arabs or Arab Tower) is a very luxury hotel in Dubai. This remarkable building was designed by Tom Wright and is promoted as the only 7-star hotel in the world. With a height of 321 meters the Burj al Arab is the tallest building used exclusively as a hotel.. The building was built in the shape of a sail of a dhow (a type Arabian ship), because ships have a important role in Dubai.

During my vacation in Dubai I went in the Burj al Arab with my family. It was so beautiful inside! We went there for breakfast and got a amazing tour through the hotel. My advice: if you ever go to Dubai, you should definitely visit the Burj al Arab! Believe me, you won’t regret it!

Twitter

Dear readers of my weblog!

I'm sure you're all familiar with the social networking site called Twitter. For those who never heard of it: Twitter is a website, owned and operated by Twitter Inc., which offers a social networking and micro blogging service, enabling its users to send and read messages called tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user's profile page. Tweets are publicly visible by default; however, senders can restrict message delivery to just their followers. Users may subscribe to other users' tweets—this is known as following and subscribers are known as followers.

All users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website. While the service is free, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees. The website is based in San Francisco, California. Twitter also has servers and offices in San Antonio, Texas and Boston, Massachusetts.

Since its creation in March 2006 and its launch in July 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Twitter has gained popularity worldwide and currently has more than 175 million users. It is estimated that Twitter has 190 million users, generating 65 million tweets a day and handling over 800,000 search queries per day. It is sometimes described as the "SMS of the Internet."

I also had a Twitter account myself, but because of some complicated circumstances I had to delete my account. I like Twitter a lot, I think it’s a very funny and cool way to send a short message that anyone can read.

Primark

Dear readers of my weblog,

Today I'm going to tell you something about the Primark. The Primark is a shop that sells nice clothes for a small price. There are two Primark’s in the Netherlands, one in Rotterdam and one in Hoofddorp. There's also a Primark in London. I really want to go to the Primark in London, because that one is much bigger than the two Primark’s in the Netherlands.

I regularly shop at the Primark in Rotterdam. I really like the things they sell there, especially the accessories. They have a big assortment with all kind of things for women, men, children and home. And the best of all: everything is very cheap.

The last time I went to the Primark was last week. I went to the Primark in Rotterdam with a friend. I bought seven things for only 20 euro! But I never actually wondered why everything is so affordable, until I read an article from the syllabus Business English Vocabulary and Fluency. According to the article Primark is works with companies involved in child labour.

I don't agree with this kind of companies and I'm against child labour. Fortunately the article from the syllabus says that Primark drops firms using child labour, so I can keep on shopping!! Although I'm not totally convinced that Primark stopped working with companies that are involved with child labour. I mean, what is the reason that the prices are so low? There has got to be a reason for that. But of course I hope that it isn't true, because child labour is awful!

Trey (L)

Dear readers of my weblog,

Today I have a very nice and good-looking subject where I'm going to write about: Trey! I'm a big fan of Trey, better known as Trey Songz. His real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson and he is born in Petersburg, Virginia on 28 November 1984. For the people who never heard of him (something I can't understand!), he is a American singer, producer and actor. He recognized his vocal abilities at the age of 14 in 1998. After that he began performing with encouragement by friends and family in high school. Record producer Troy Taylor discovered Songz during a talent show in 2000, which led him to signing a recording contract with Atlantic Records in 2002. After graduating from high school in 2002, Songz moved to New Jersey to begin recording his debut album, though recording didn't actually begin until 2003.

Trey got four albums. His first album, I Gotta Make It, came out in 2005, his second came out two years later: Trey Day. His third album, Ready, came out in 2009. And his last album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure (my personal favourite) came out 14 September 2010. Trey began work on the album in early 2010 with Sean Garrett, Troy Taylor and Stargate. The album Passion, Pain & Pleasure was completed in July 2010.

So in short, Trey is not only very good-looking, but he also sings very beautiful! If you never heard of him or never listened to one of his songs, I really recommend you to do it!

Iphone

Dear readers of my weblog,

Today I would like to write about a subject which I think is pretty cool: an Iphone! I have an Iphone myself and I must say I really love it! I got it as a present for my seventeenth birthday and I'm so happy with it. A lot of people have a Blackberry nowadays, but I prefer an Iphone for many reasons.

First of all, the way the phone looks: I think an Iphone is much prettier than a blackberry. An Iphone is bigger and more stylish and not to mention the screen of an Iphone is much bigger than the screen of a blackberry.

Second of all, the opportunities: There are a lot of programs on an Iphone that a Blackberry doesn't have (yet), for example the program Viber (Viber is a program which makes it possible to call for free).

The only thing where a Blackberry wins of an Iphone is the price: A Blackberry is way cheaper than an Iphone, but of course you can expect that if you look at the quality!

I have my Iphone for about six months now and I got to say that you can get addicted to an Iphone! The first three months I played with it day and night, but nowadays I try to put my phone away as much as possible, even though I found that hard sometimes! My parents and friends already complained a lot of times that I spend too much time with my Iphone.
