Dear readers of my weblog,
Two years ago I worked for a company that called Square² Contact Center. Square² is a little Callcenter in Delft which sells Oxxio (energy) and raises money for the Dutch Heart Foundation. It is a nice company that employs mostly young people.
I worked there for six months. When I started there I was only sixteen years old and I had no experience what so ever. The first day I was very nervous, because I didn’t knew how or what I had to do. Fortunately I got a lot of help from my supervisor.
My job was to call people and sell them energy from Oxxio (an energy supplier). When you work in a Callcenter you sit behind a computer with a headset on which include a microphone and at your computer screen you see exactly what you have to say. .At first I really liked the job. I thought it was challenging, because your goal is to score as much costumers as you can. But after a while I started to like it less and less. It not only became really boring, but the longer I worked there, the more I began to notice that I was actually lighting up people. Because Oxxio isn’t cheaper than other energy companies, but our job is to make it seem like Oxxio is the best and the cheapest.
After I found out that they were trying to sell Oxxio to old people who don’t even understand what Oxxio actually means, I resigned. And after this awful experience I decided to never work in a Callcenter again.
